Dolores “Dodie” Pockar Rose


Pockar Rose, Dolores “Dodie,” 84, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at The Ryan Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, AZ.  She was the beloved wife of the late William Pockar and Edward Rose.  Born in Providence, RI, a daughter of the late Louis Forbes and Rose Goldsmith, she had lived in Sun City West, AZ for 30 years, previously living in Pawtucket, RI.  She was an elementary school teacher until taking over her husband’s business, The Samuel B. Pockar Company.  Dolores was a member of Temple Beth Shalom where she was very active.  She was also involved with several other Jewish social groups.  She enjoyed summers in Utah in the elder hostel program.  She was an avid Mah Jongg player and also enjoyed tennis and swimming.  She was a lifelong member of the League of Women Voters and was an usher for the Herberger Theatre in downtown Phoenix.  Devoted mother of Jill Skerker and her husband, Stuart, of Attleboro, MA and Lauri Pockar and her husband, Eric Peters, of Phoenix, AZ.  Step-mother of Saralee Rose of Danielson, CT, Judy Bergeron and her husband, Ron, of Lebanon, CT, and Steven Rose and his wife, Pam, of Cheshire, CT.  Dear sister of the late Avis Bernstein.  Loving grandmother of Rachel and Benjamin and Ed’s grandchildren, Lauren, Jeff, Andrew, and Mike.  Adored great grandmother of Shane and Brianna  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in PRIEST CHAPEL at LINCOLN PARK CEMETERY, 1469 Post Rd., Warwick, RI.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to your favorite charity.  Shiva will be observed at the home of Jill and Stuart Skerker, 5 Chapel Hill Ln., Attleboro, MA 02703, Wed. 7-9, Thurs. 2-4 & 7-9, and Sun. 2-4 p.m.

    We sublet Dodie’s apartment in Logan 17 years ago and that was the start of a love affair with Logan and a friendship with Dodie. We’ll miss her in the pool and playing Mah Jongg.
    She was a sweet and unassuming woman.
