The leadership of the Connecticut Department of Children and Families extends sympathy to our colleague, Commissioner Jordan Scheff and his family on the passing of his dear mother. Cmsr Scheff is a shining example of his mom’s legacy as he leads with compassion, empathy and advocacy for some of our state’s most vulnerable citizens. We share in this commitment to serve with him and are so very sorry for your loss. May you all be comforted by fond memories. “Dance is a language beyond words, expressing that for which we have no words-“ JdL

    Dear family of Helene,

I’m so sorry for your loss. Helene was always so kind and loving to me. She always made me feel like family. She always had so much more faith in me than I had in myself. I am so grateful to you, Ed and Fred, for encouraging me to go to RI College and to Helene for getting me involved with Chance to Dance. You took me into the bosom of your family and I will never forget that.

Thank you for all the smiles and laughs, Helene, when I would wish you a Merry Christmas or a Happy Easter! Thank you for the fun meetings at school or at your house for dinner. My best intelligent contributions was usually in bringing the pastry! I loved coming to give you a hug at PPAC as you worked the t-shirt and gift table.

I will always have you in my heart. Please forgive me for any time I may have hurt you or offended you. You will always be in my prayers and so will your beautiful family. Thank you for all you did for me. I love you. Rest In Peace in the Lord’s loving embrace.

Helene (and I address this to you in whatever form you might be),
I shall always cherish the 10 years we worked together so closely on NDEO conferences. In our check-ins every morning I could greet each day basking in your warmth and hilarious perspective with which you approached all the problems and issues confronting us.
In my mind you shall always remain on your throne next to the Registration Table, waving your cane and commanding the conference kingdom you organized.
We have stayed in touch since then…and always will.
To her entire clan, I extend deep sympathy. She spoke of you often to me and I know how much she loved each of you. May you keep the treasures she gave you in your hearts.
    The Love is forever.
    Rima

Dear Ed, Fred, Jordan, Carolyn and Daniel, spouses, grand children and the little one great grandchild,

Chris and I embrace you in your sorrow and may you find peace in knowing all those that knew Helene were truly blessed with her kindness, setting a strong example for all to live up to and for her compassion in helping others achieve what they didn’t think they could. We will miss her greatly after 40 plus years of being good friends and being her dance student for so many of those years. Her memory will remain as one of the happiest periods of my life having known and loved her.
