Sema Ullian

DATELINE: Easton, MA

Sema (Silverman) Ullian , formerly of Easton MA, passed away August 8 at the Elmhurst Extended Care Nursing Home after a period of failing health.  She was 84.

Sema was born in Providence RI, attended Classical High School and Pembroke College (Brown University). Sema married Harris in 1951, lived in Syracuse, NY for a brief time before residing in Easton, MA for 55 years.  In 2005, Sema and Harris moved to Tamarisk Assisted Living in Warwick, RI.

Sema was a multi-dimensional lady.  In the early 60’s, Sema was a Head Start teacher, involved in  UNICEF, the League of Women Voters in Brockton, active in the NAACP, serving as a youth advisor in addition to being a librarian and member of the Sisterhood at the former Temple Israel of Brockton. Sema worked in the family clothing business of Ullian’s Teen Haven for many years.

At 48 years old, Sema began working and loving her position at Emerson College in Boston.  She worked at Emerson for 14 years and was a key figure in the development office.  After retiring, for a brief time, she had a part time job with the Duck Tours. She enjoyed greeting and having conversations with customers prior to embarking the Duck boats.  She always loved working in Boston, so much to see and do.

Sema was a Renaissance woman with many interests.  She was an intelligent, kind, loving person who was good through and through.  She touched so many with her kindness, sincerity, warmth, humor and good nature.  To know Sema was to love her, a truly beautiful person. She loved the arts, literature, music, people of all ages and, most of all, family.

Sema is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 62 years, Harris Ullian, currently at the Veteran’s Home in Bristol, RI.  She was the most wonderful mother to Laura Ullian, Abbie Ullian-Corey and her husband, Robert, of Easton, and Martha Rustigian and her husband, Robert, of Plymouth. She was the adoring grandmother of Nicholas Rustigian of Seattle, WA and Tanya Rustigian of Plymouth, MA. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Rebecca (Shechter) Silverman and the sister of the late Frimette Roberts and Sheldon Silverman. Sema is also survived by loving and devoted nieces and nephews.  She will be lovingly missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held at Shalom Chapel, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston, RI at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 12th. Shiva will be observed at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick, RI immediately following the service until 7 p.m.
