Morris P. Schwartz
Schwartz, Morris P., 94, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Amber) Schwartz for 68 years. Born in Providence, a son of the late Samuel and Rebecca (Rosenberg) Schwartz, he had lived in Greenville for 14 years, previously living in Providence.
Morris was a WWII Army veteran. He was a 1949 graduate of Brown University and a member of the Tower Club. Morris was also a member of Temple Emanu-El and the RI Jewish Historical Society. Morris, a diehard Red Sox fan, held eternal optimism each February as spring training began. When the Sox broke the curse of the Bambino in 2004, Morris was ecstatic, and even more so after three more titles. He was famous for his banana bread, which he happily shared with everyone, including his lifelong friends who attended the weekly nickel-and-dime poker game. He loved taking photos of his children and grandchildren.
He was a devoted father to Judy Flaxman and her husband, Bill, of Nassau County, NY, Bill Schwartz and his girlfriend, Sheryl Rich-Kern, of Nashua, NH, and Steven Schwartz and his wife, Gail Agronick, of Greenville, RI. He is predeceased by his siblings Blanche Revkin, Abraham Schwartz, and Roslyn Applebaum. He was a loving grandfather to Jonathan, Samantha, Michaela, Jordan, Zoe, and Adeline.
Morris was kind, gentle, compassionate, and great listener. He adored his wife Barbara from the time they met in 1947 and loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally. They adored him in return. He will be deeply missed.
Graveside services and Shiva will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to RI Jewish Historical Association, 401 Elmgrove Ave., Providence, RI 02906 or the charity of one’s choosing.
Funeral services will be live streamed via Zoom on Sunday, December 27th 10:00 a.m.
I am so sorry for your loss…
May his memory be for a blessing.

Mr. Schwartz treated me like a daughter in all the years that Judy and I were childhood friends ( kindergarten on, actually)- I always felt like one of the family! I loved his sweet smile, his kindness towards everyone, and how inclusive he was. Such a gentleman, too!! He will be greatly missed!
It was an honor to be present for this memorial. Although we did not know Morris, we were able to glimpse into the man he was and how he truly impacted all those he met. May his memories serve you all well. Sincerely, Rick and Amy Gaddes
I met Mr. Schwartz almost 60 years ago when Judy and I became life-time friends, starting in kindergarten. Judy and I spent a lot of time in each other’s home through the years. Mr. Schwartz was like a “second father” to me, making me feel like I was one of his own. I loved his smile, his sweet and gentle demeanor, and how he was always so considerate of everyone. What a wonderful man – and a life well-lived!!
Dear Barbara, Judy, Steven, and Bill, your spouses and children,
Our sincerest condolences on the loss of Morris. I remember going to your house as a child and he was always very jovial and happy. As the days, weeks and months pass, I hope you find comfort in the wonderful memories you have. Sending hugs from Virginia.
