Rachel L. Glick

DATELINE: West Warwick, RI

Glick, Rachel L., 95, of Quincy, MA, died November 14, 2014 at the Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was the beloved wife of the late Irving “Itsie” Glick.  Born in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late Louis and Fannie (Green) Rosen, Rachel was an eternal optimist who sincerely believed that there was good in everyone and an upside to even the most dire situations.  She had a nearly unquenchable passion for learning, her community, and her friends and family.  As a young woman she embarked on a long career as a hairdresser at Filene’s.  Upon retirement, she pursued a new career in Gerontology, graduating with a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts in 1989 at the age of 70. Rachel was an active participant in many organizations in the greater Boston area.  She was a member of the former Jewish Community Center in Quincy and past president of its Sisterhood.  She also volunteered regularly with the Massachusetts Medicare Agency to help with various senior educational outreach initiatives. One of her favorite pastimes was writing poetry.

Rachel was a devoted mother to Dr. Richard Glick and his wife, Lynn, of Cranston, and Linda Glick and her husband, Elliot Landes, of Winters, CA.  She was a loving grandmother to Hava, Zachary, Cheryl and Laura,  a cherished great grandmother of Isaac and Sammy, and a dear sister to William Rosen of Boston and the late Bob, Ted, and Harry Rosen and Wilma Tannenholtz.

A graveside funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. at the Baker Street Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, 72 River Park St., Ste. 202, Needham Heights, MA, 02494, the Westview Nursing Home, 239 Legris Ave., West Warwick, RI 02893 or Gentiva Hospice, 2374 Post Rd., Ste. 206, Warwick, RI 02886.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Glick, 20 Jonathan Way, Cranston, Monday and Tuesday from 7:00 -9:00 P.M.

Our deepest sympathies to Dr. & Mrs. Richard Glick, and Linda & Husband Elliot. Whenever we visited our Mother Edith Valletta, we often had pleasant conversations with Rachel. She was always smiling and blue eyes shining. May she rest in peace with our mother heaven.

Ray Glick was a good friend to my mother and our entire family. My brothers and I grew up in Quincy with Linda and Dick Glick. I always enjoyed Ray’s sense of humor and her spirit of fun and wisdom. I am better for having known her and will miss her always.
