Samuels, Barbara, 97, of Dartmouth, Massachusetts died on Sunday Jan. 4 at Rhode Island Hospital.

She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom and unwavering dedication to her family. She was the beloved wife of Eli Samuels, and daughter of the late Bernard and Rose (Minkin) Kestenbaum. Barbara was born and raised in New Bedford, MA; graduating from New Bedford High School and Larson Junior College. She had a wonderful life and was loved by all who were privileged to know her. She was an active member of the Tifereth Israel congregation, becoming president at the age of 78. She also served as president of the Helen Landy chapter of Hadassah in Palm Beach Florida.

She was the devoted mother of three children. Elaine Quinlan and her husband Eddie of Rockland, MA; Stanley Samuels, and his wife, Safi of Thousand Oaks, CA; and Susan Rudnick and her husband, Donny of Dartmouth MA. She was the sister of the late Richard Kestenbaum and Maynard Kestenbaum. Loving grandmother of Brooke Workman, Kyla Rudnick, Emily Quinlan, and Elyse Quinlan. Cherished great grandmother of Lilly, Maya, and Ava Workman; and Ellyana and Eli Bigham.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7 at 11 AM at the Tifereth Israel Congregation, 145 Brownell Ave., New Bedford, MA. Interment to follow at Plainville Cemetery. Followed by the meal of condolence at TI Congregation. Shiva will be observed at the home of Susan and Donny Rudnick, 20 Star of the Sea Drive, Dartmouth, MA. Wednesday 7-9pm, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm, and Friday 1-3pm. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Tifereth Israel Congregation.

    We’re so sorry to learn of your loss and are away and thus not able to visit with you at this time. Barbara was one of a kind. So full of life — with interesting stories about her family and of the early years in New Bedford (where everyone seemed to know everyone). We will miss her. Ilene and Richard
