Friedman, Norma, 94, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Providence, on July 8, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Bessie Friedman. Norma was an employee of the State of Rhode Island where she served as the Administrative Officer of the State and she supported the work of the Investment Committee responsible for the State’s Retirement Funds. Norma was a lifemember of Hadassah and a proud long-time member of Temple Torat Yisrael where she served on the Building Committee during the critical time that the new Temple building was under development.
She is survived by her sisters, Bertha Goldberg of Delray Beach, FL and Dorothy Kramer of Warwick, RI. She was the loving aunt to her niece Barbara Goldberg, and her nephew, Alan Goldberg. She was a wonderful great-aunt to Hannah Goldberg, Sarah Goldberg, and Jaime Derringer and a great-great-aunt to James Curthoys.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Priest Chapel at Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Road, Warwick. Shiva will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Hadassah, 40 Wall Street, New York, NY 10005 or Temple Torat Yisrael, 1251 Middle Road, East Greenwich, RI 02818.

I have such wonderful memories of Norma…especially from our involvement together in RI Hadassah projects. My mom, Frances Friedman, had a very special place in her heart for Norma and your family. I know you share great memories of Norma…and I hope they are a source of comfort at this sad time.

My sincere condolences to the Friedman family. I have so many good memories of Norma. Norma was the first person I met when I started working for the State in ’74. But the memory I remember the most was our drive home from work during the 78 blizzard. I could only dropped her off at the bottom of her street. I wasn’t going to make it up her hill. We both got home safely. She was a wonderful person to work with.

My sincerest condolences to Norma’s family. She hired me at the State House in 1960 and was my mentor with so much influence. Thank you Norma! I remember her license plate. I think of her every time the Cicilline name is mentioned! So sorry for your loss.
