Alan Uffer

Uffer, Alan M., 83, of Boca Raton, FL, (formerly a resident of Cranston, RI) died on February 12, 2022, of heart failure.

Alan lived his entire life focused on the things he loved most: his family, his sports teams, the beach and being pool side, telling jokes, wearing his blonde girlie wig, admiring beautiful women and driving his much-adored sister-in-law crazy. Over the years he would never pass up a chance to fish, play cards, bowl or go to auctions.  His kindness and compassion knew no bounds, and he would be the first to tell you he just wanted to make people feel good and laugh. After the passing of his wife, he had to quickly learn adulting including cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, paying bills and using an ATM machine. He was a work in progress.

Born in Providence, RI, he was a graduate of Hope High School and Bryant College. He spent a career that in retail, moved to business ownership and culminated in food distribution sales and marketing. In his retirement he dedicated a great portion of time to volunteering at Save the Bay, RI Blood Bank, The Children’s Museum and Hasbro Children’s Hospital among others. He was also a member of The RI Touro Fraternal Organization and served in the Army National Guard.

He is preceded in the death by his wife Janice Uffer, his parents Jenny (Goldstein) and Harry Uffer and brother Martin Uffer.  He is survived by his daughter Ellice Uffer and son David Uffer; most beloved granddaughter Alexis Uffer; sister-in-law Adrienne Uffer, nieces Michelle Snoeren (Pieter Snoeren); Debra Gold (Steve Gold);  Great nephews Harris Sullivan and Henry Gold and Great nieces Sage Andone (Dakon Andone) and Jenny Gold; and favorite cousins Arlene Goldstein and Burt Goldstein (Elaine Goldstein) and grandpup Frankie Grace. He is also survived by his “Debbie” – loyal and devoted aid, companion and mostly importantly, best friend on earth.

Services will be held on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in Shalom Memorial Chapel, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Alan’s memory to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Save the Bay, or Camp Jori all of which are in Rhode Island.

Shiva will be observed at 160 Highland Ave., Warwick, Sunday 2-4 p.m.

I am so sorry to learn of Alan’s passing. He was my brothers best friend in high school and college! Alan spent a lot of time at our parents home. He always used to tease me. I remember when he fell in love with Janice! They were a wonderful couple!
May his memory be a blessing.

Some of the best years in our lives were spent together with your Mom and Dad, and of course you and David! We shared fun, laughter, watching are kids grow up together, happy occasions as well as sad, and most of all we shared our wonderful times together. I’ll always remember that everyone thought we were like “Lucy and Ethel”, always in trouble, but always doing it together!!
Our deepest sympathy to you and David on your loss, and know that Harvey and I will share it with you.

Our thoughts are with you and David. Our memories of your Mom and Dad bring back all the amazing years we shared together as a family. Janice any I were the real “Lucy and Ethel”, always doing something stupid and silly, but always laughing at ourselves and each other. Our memories of all the wonderful, fun times your Mom and Dad, Harvey and I shared, sometimes out and sometimes just sitting in the house laughing and enjoying each other. The best memories are the fun times we shared as families.
Our hearts are with you and David. In spite of all the lost years, we will always cherish the memories.

    Dear Ellice and David,
Your Dad was such fun to be with and brought so much laughter to us all.
Generosity was his middle name. I remember him donating a lot of sports equipment to Camp Jori.
He is dancing with your beloved Mother now.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
    Love, Naomi & Bob
