Lawrence “Larry” D. Wacks

Wacks, Lawrence “Larry” D., 72, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022 at home. He was the beloved husband of Joyce (Grueneberg) Wacks for 36 years. Born in Bronx, NY, a son of the late Moe and Rosalyn (Kaplan) Wacks, he was a longtime resident of Rhode Island, most recently residing in Cranston. Larry attended the University of Hartford. He was a salesman for the former CJ Fox in Providence, retiring in 2018. Larry was a member of Temple Emanu-El and enjoyed bowling, volunteering as a basketball coach for various Jr. High and High School level leagues. He was also a fan of watching and discussing all things football and basketball.
Devoted father of Jill Weintraub (Benjamin) of Brookline, MA and Marlene Schlesinger (Joseph) of Needham, MA. Larry had three grandchildren, Nathan Weintraub and Evan and Sophie Schlesinger, who brought a big smile to his face and brought joy to his life. Dear brother of Helene Rodway. Cherished uncle of Michael and Marc Rodway and Daniel Seltzer.

I could write volumes about Larry. “Lar” I called him… as in ”
Lar , we’re in trouble. We just in a big purchase order , but we are short on boxes can you do anything to get us on press ASAP.”
My company is the KALA Corp. in Cranston and Larry was our box guy at CJ Fox from the time my husband and I started our business.. 3 decades ago…. until his retirement.
The ” Dynamic Duo” Larry and Janet somehow always had our backs and came through for us. Always.
When we first started out I had the ideas for products ( soaps)
but knew very little about what goes on to make a really good packaging . Larry was so kind to me.He taught me everything I know about how to create a box. He always encouraged me
in my work as an inventor /designer. It wasn’t just about making a sale and getting a box order from us. Larry really did care about us and boy did he know his stuff.
When troubled times fell upon KALA over the years , Larry and Janet always had our backs and we would pull through.
We became fast friends. I confided in him not only on money and business matters, but personal matters as well.
He was a straight up , trust worthy person at every turn.
He was very funny. He had that ” New York Moxie”.
Sometimes , if he was trying to make a point and my big Irish
self wasn’t getting it , he would go all ” Yiddish ” on me and get me laughing.
I will always remember the times he would drive me up to Fitchburg,Ma for a press check when C.J. moved up there from Providence
He’d blast the radio with all our favorites ( 1960s/70′s )
and the 2 of us would rock out singing along , fingers snapping,and car dancing. This is how I plan to remember him.
He was just the best….. a true piece of work !
He loved his family beyond words… and those grandkids.. forget it!
