Rose R. Levine

Levine, Rose R., passed away on October 20, 2021 after a 3 day illness. She was the daughter of the late Jennie (Salk) and Samuel Altman. Rose was predeceased by her husband, Samuel, to whom she was married for 65 years. She was also predeceased by her son, Kenneth, and her brothers Morris, Leonard, and Nathan.

Rose’s life was enriched by her loving family, her daughter, Judy, and son-in-law, Geoffrey, her adored grandchildren, Melissa, Tony, and Darcy. She was blessed with two amazing great-grandchildren, Peter and Samantha.

Rose spent many years employed by James Kaplan Jewelers. She enjoyed every phase of her job. Spending time cooking and baking was a daily enjoyment. Always delicious. Always creative.

Rose taught many wise lessons. She always said, “Don’t worry – It won’t do you any good. You can’t change what happened yesterday. You must live for today, and you don’t know what tomorrow will bring, so don’t worry.”

Rose was a determined woman. The word “can’t” wasn’t in her vocabulary. She would accomplish whatever she set out to do, no matter what.

She lived a full life until 104 years, 2 months, and 2 days. What a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother – someone to admire.

Shiva and funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Rose was a part of my life since I can remember. I remember her buying snacks at Crestwood and always greeting me with a hug and a smile….She loved her family with great enthusiasm and Judy and Geoff were such wonderful and loving children and caretakers. I will remember her love for Wheel and Jeopardy and playing cards. Sending love and sympathy to the family ♥️

My mother schmoozed with Jerry Kaplan and got me hired to work at Kaplans throughout high school. I was initially hired to help them make the move from Rolfe Street to Garden City. We were a team of high schoolers tasked to do whatever menial work we were assigned be it vacuuming, unpacking, etc. After we were settled in we were assigned to the back room to gift wrap gifts. Rose tried her best to teach us teen employees how to gift wrap. She was extremely talented and tried mightily to be patient. She was quite the task master. An elegant hard working no nonsense boss lady, even more so than Sheila and Jerry. What a great place to work – I learned so much and was exposed to all kinds of people and fine crafts and jewels. And Rose Levine is a part of my memories there. In hindsight she was a great example of a woman who wanted a career and worked hard for it and dressed up to the nines for it every day. She was really good at her job.
I am sorry for your loss and also to learn her son/your brother has passed as well. Life is so bittersweet.

May their memories be a blessing.
