Bornstein, Jeannette, 86, died Saturday, January 30, 2021 in Clearwater, FL. She was the beloved wife of the late Morton Bornstein. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Jeannette was the daughter of the late Ignace and Rose (Stern) Berkovic and the beloved foster daughter of Edith (Gershman) and Benjamin Matusow. She had lived in Clearwater since 2005, previously living in Warren, RI.
Jeannette was a member of the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg. She was dedicated to speaking regularly to students, teachers and the general public with her sister, Marie Silverman, in the hopes that something like the Holocaust would never happen again.
She was on the Advisory Committee to the Gulf Coast Jewish Family & Community Services Holocaust Survivor Program and involved in their food pantry. Jeannette belonged to Temple Emanu-El in Providence, RI.
Jeannette’s working life spanned many decades at Miller’s Delicatessen with Morty, David, Larry and many of the Bornstein and Borenstein family. She took solace and joy in painting, crochet and gourmet cooking.
Devoted mother of David Bornstein and his wife, Byrna, of Westwood, MA and the late Larry Bornstein. Dear sister of Marie Silverman of Clearwater, FL and her late husband, Melvin, and sister-in-law of Stanley Bornstein and his wife, Ginny, of Syosset, NY. Loving grandmother of Sheera and her husband, Brian, Elana, and Jaclyn. Cherished great grandmother of Charlotte. Aunt Jeannette was also loved by her niece and nephews Renee (Hank), Marc (Matt), Stephen and their families.

Like all the survivors, Jeannette had an inner strength to pull her through life. Judy and I got to know her as a loving grandmother, appreciating the Holidays and basking in and sharing the love of her family. Jeanette was a welcoming presence in the Bornstein family and I appreciated it. I felt close to Jeanette, she was so nice to me as a newcomer to the family. I will always remember her with love.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of the family. Jeanette was very kind to me, and I will always be grateful for her graciousness and for the times we spent together as a family when Morty was alive. I have wonderful memories of her and she will be truly missed.
