Beranbaum, Irma, 62, died Friday, February 2, 2018 at Kent Hospital. Born in Providence, a daughter of Lenore (Kwasha) Beranbaum and the late Nathan Beranbaum, she was a longtime resident of Warwick. She was a hairdresser for 40 years and owner of Meme Frizzae. Dear sister of Sheryl Rothermel of Providence and Holly Elkins and Donald of Coventry. Loving aunt of Dillon and Callie Rothermel. Beloved cousin of several. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02115. Shiva will be observed at Wethersfield Commons Community Room, 1 Williamsburg Drive, Warwick on Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

Irma was the kind of person that made you feel wonderful just by being in her presence. There could be a salon filled with people, blow dryers and loud conversations….plenty of kvetching. Even with all the noise, eyes and ears would gravitate to Irma. It was impossible not to laugh at her funny stories and realize that you can’t take yourself too seriously. I think that anyone who met Irma, even for just a passing moment, maybe just in line at the market received a compliment from her or a even a witty sarcastic joke. Though our friendship was within the Salon walls, it was special and I will cherish it. I will tell my son James about Irma and how at 4 weeks old in the crazy salon she was there holding him so I could get my hair done. Babies are a very good judge of character and he was certainly right in loving and trusting Irma….especially while his mom looked like a nut with foils in her hair and getting her mustache waxed. (That’s for you Irma because I know you would have laughed at that one). I will miss her dearly. My sincere condolences. – Julia
