Martin Dittelman

Dittelman, Martin, 89, died peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 8, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Seena (Kovitch) Dittelman for 64 years. Born in Ossining, NY, he was the son of the late Lewis and Helen (Simmons) Dittelman and the youngest brother of the late Elliot and Harold Dittelman. Martin and Seena had recently moved to the Phyllis Siperstein Tamarisk Assisted Living Residence, which he had an active role in helping to build with the Jewish Seniors Agency of Rhode Island. He had previously lived in Cranston for 54 years in a home that brought love, joy and great food to anyone who stepped through the door. Martin had a long and successful career as an accountant and his work brought him around the world, most often with Seena by his side. Among his long list of accomplishments he was Navy Veteran, an active senior member of the Jewish Community and Commodore of the East Greenwich Yacht Club. His most beloved role was that of the patriarch of his family. He was a rock and a port in a storm and was always there with wise words, unconditional love and a good bottle of wine. Besides his devoted wife Seena, he leaves behind son Jason Dittelman (spouse Cathy Buchanan) and daughter Lori Gibson (spouse Mark Gibson). He was the grandfather of Heather Dittelman Conover (spouse Ray Conover), Max Dittelman (spouse Sarah Dittelman), Ingrid Suprock and Jeremy Martini (spouse Daryl Martini). He was especially proud that he also got to be (in his words) a “genuine great-grandfather” to Calvin Conover, Natalie Conover, Ellie Dittelman and Charlotte Dittelman.

Burial services will be private but a shiva will be held on 2/13/17 from 2-6pm at Tamarisk on 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick, RI. There will be a short service by Rabbi Ethan Adler of Congregation Beth David at 5:45pm. Martin would have been 90 on June 26.The family is planning a celebration of his life that weekend, details to come.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Jewish Seniors Agency, 100 Niantic Ave., Providence, RI 02907 (or online at http://jsari.org/donate)

Martin will be greatly missed. He made me a better accountant and, more importantly, a better person. I was always proud to call him my “partner”.

I’ve lost a great friend. No person has been as important to my life as Martin has been both in personal and business matters.. I remember well many, many holiday dinners at his home and one on one lunches. His guidance and advice will always be cherished. My love and respect for Seena is equally as potent. Debbie and I considered the Dittelmans as extraordinary friends

I first met Mr. Dittelman when I was 18 yrs old. He was a soft spoken gentlemen who was a CPA and drove a grey Mercedes. When he took my family sailing, Seena served us delicious tabouli. It was just perfect on a hot summer day…another first for me. I have since married a CPA, drive a Mercedes and make tabouli regularly for my family and friends. Fond memories of Mr. and Mrs. Dittelman.

Dear Seena and Dittleman family, our nextdoor neighbors. My Mom Therese made a point for me to get a message to you. We are all surprised and saddened to hear of Martin’s passing. We Griffin’s, though neighbors for many years, hardly knew the Dittleman family except probably for my brother Bill to whom you often gave work. And my Mom always had something nice to say about you. And I know that in only the very few times I had a chance to work or be with you, I discovered how incredibly nice Seena and Martin really were. May God bless and be with you, Paul Griffin
