    Dear Sandra and family,
We were heartbroken to learn of Allen’s passing. We knew him for many years as volunteers at the Military Lounge. He would follow our Friday morning shift; always with a smile and a couple of stories. We will miss him dearly. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this most difficult time. Allen was a true gentleman and patriot who served tirelessly. Allen, rest easy my friend.

Sandy and Family, This was shared with me at a time of loss and I share it forward.
    DEATH IS NOTHING
Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way, which you always used. Put no difference in your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, and pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is an absolute unbroken continuity. What is Death but a negligent accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well .

Allen was a great VAMC volunteer. He was a driver of our passenger shuttle, who transported visitors and patients back and forth from their vehicles to the hospital entrance. He was friendly, outgoing, helpful and dedicated to serving his fellow Veterans. He would often spend a few minutes in the office prior to driving and would tell me stories of his activities and interactions with service men and women at the airport. He spoke lovingly of his family and told he about the different culinary delights he and his wife Sandra created. His was a life of giving. Allen will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family; I wish his entire family Peace and Comfort anchored in the knowledge that he has gone to his eternal reward.

Condolences to the family. In Hope High School, Allen always bounced along head forward like he was on a mission. Well, he certainly completed many and well done in his time here. He was a jaunty, friendly smart kid. May you be comforted in your loss.
