I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Fischman’s passing. I had him as an English (public speaking) Teacher and he was so inspiring and fun. He really got me excited about learning and expressing myself in my own creative way.

He tricked us all into giving speeches unrehearsed by focusing us on an Art Show. We collected and displayed the art we were to talk about. We were so distracted with wine/cheese and learning about the category of art and our display that the “speech” part was not even a concern or consideration. It wasn’t till I was older that I realized what he did. We all gave our first speech for the class that day without any nervousness. How tricky was that.

He was one of those rare teachers that made you feel special even when you were academically average. He allowed us to standout for our creativity during our speeches. He encouraged us to think outside the box and then embraced it with joy and laughter. What a graceful, kind man, calm and encouraging to all. He had a way of teaching without you even being aware of all you were learning.

He is someone I will be forever grateful for … my favorite teacher and mentor. Best class ever at Bryant was without a question that Public Speaking class with Dr Fischman. And I still use the lessons he taught.

I always wanted to share that with him, so I have shared it with you.

My heart goes out to his family and friends, as I am sure that he will be dearly missed. I am sure he has left all of you with joy in your heart that he was a part of your lives.
