Morris H. Chorney, 84, well-known for always lending a helping hand and sharing his sense of humor, passed away on December 18, 2024, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Arlene (Tebrow) Chorney for sixty years. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Jacob and Ida (Ferdman) Chorney, he had lived in Warwick for over 40 years. He was a science teacher at Birchwood School in North Providence for 27 years, retiring in 1997. Morris was a retired Navy veteran, serving from 1959-1963 and again from 1981-2000. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, AFT, Navy Enlisted Retirement Association and the Naval Parachute Riggers Association. He was the loving father of Jason and Amy Chorney of St. Paul, MN, Tonya Latzman of Cranston and partner, Vincent Campagna, and the very proud Papa of Sam and Nate Latzman. Morris was the dear brother of Paul Chorney of Framingham, MA, Milton Chorney (deceased) of Las Vegas, NV, and Harold Chorney of Wellington, FL. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 23, 2024 at 11am at Shalom Memorial Chapel, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society 690 Peary St., Newport, RI 02841 or the Conimicut Branch c/o Warwick Public Library 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick, RI 02889. Shiva will be observed at his late residence: 30 Americo Dr. Warwick, Monday 5-7pm.


To the Chorney family, please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. Chorney. Morris was my teacher at Birchwood and is one of my all time favorite educators. Mr. Chorney loved teaching and did so with enthusiasm, kindness and understanding. May he rest in peace.
