Claire Krasner

DATELINE: WARWICK

Claire Krasner passed away on March 13 after a brief illness, at the age of 94, at Kent County Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Harry and Molly (Gergel) Gornstein.  She was a lifelong resident of Rhode Island, graduating from Hope High School.  She attended Rhode Island State College (later to be URI), where she majored in Home Economics and was a member of the Sigma Delta Tau fraternity.  There she met her sweetheart, Harold, to whom she remained married for 70 years.  Claire and Harold lived independently until they were in their 90’s.  Sadly, he predeceased her by 5 months.  She is also predeceased by all 3 of her siblings, Nathan, Sidney and Sheldon.  Claire is survived by her sons Jay and his spouse Sharon Bell, Edward and his spouse Abigail Potter, and 4 grandchildren, Elliot, Laurel, Samuel and Simon, as well as any number of nephews, nieces and their children.

Claire’s life was unassuming and revolved around her husband, her family and her friends.  She was an invincible and uncompromising Mah Jongg player.  She loved cats, sticky candy and shows at the Warwick Tent.  She was a vicious bargain seeker, and delighted in hitting the Trifecta of clearance markdown, coupon and senior discount.  But her greatest pleasure in life was simple – soaking up the sun, whether it be in Narragansett, Florida or the Caribbean.

Claire was a warm and accepting person who lived in the moment.  She will be missed and remembered fondly.

Funeral services will be private.  Shiva will be observed virtually. Please check back for updates regarding the day, time, and link. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Rhode Island Food Bank at   https://rifoodbank.org/.

I am very sorry to hear of Claire’s passing.
Claire and Harold were good friends of my parents. I remember them at the house for the “club”. The men played poker and the women played maj jong.
I remember Claire as a caring and fun person. May she Rest In Peace.

Dear Jay and Eddie, and families,
My deepest condolences to you all.
I know Claire most of my life. She was a fun person and loved to play Mahjong. She will be sadly missed in the community. We lived on the same Street on Summit Drive for years. In fact
her parents came to the briss for my first born at my parents on Pinehurst Ave. in Providence.
May God give you strength and may
Your parents Rest In Peace together.

  3. Dear Jay and Eddie
I am so very sorry to read of your mom’s passing. I can still see Claire and my mom playing mah- jongg or cards or just hanging around together. They were good friends for each other. I remember your mom as a kind sincere person.

My sincere condolences to you and your families. I’m sure this was especially hard so close to your dad’s passing. I know you have wonderful memories that hopefully will help during this difficult time.

Claire was like a part of my family! I cherish my great memories of all our time spent together celebrating life’s milestones! I was fortunate to be able to have a wonderful visit with her just 3 weeks ago – she raved about her family. She will be missed! Peace and Love!
