Brooklyn, Edwin, 99, died Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Greenwich Farms in Warwick. He was the beloved husband of the late Carol R. Brooklyn for 65 years. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Abe Brooklyn and Alice (Zacharewitz) Brooklyn Trilling, he was a state spelling bee champion who proudly represented his elementary school in the state finals. Edwin was a trombone player with the Passaic-Bergen Symphony Orchestra and had his own dance band in Passaic in the 1940’s. He was also a former Rutgers University ASTP US. Army football running back and a track runner who took on the 100-yard and 220-yard dashes.

Edwin was a student at Upsala College where he met his beloved wife, while there he focused on business administration and he received his bachelor’s in business administration. He had lived in Passaic, NJ, where he managed and operated the A. Brooklyn Tire Exchange following the death of his father. Edwin was a veteran of the 2nd World War from June 1944 to August 1945 and the Korean War from October 1951 to October of 1953. Staff Sergeant Brooklyn served at the Headquarters Company at Camp Gordon in Georgia where he was responsible for the filing of requests and the transfer of Signal Corp personnel around the world.

In his later years, Edwin served his community as a former President of Market Merchandisers, Inc., a former President of Certified Computer Services, a former President and Chairman of the Board of Service Merchandisers of America, a former Vice Chairman of the RI Council of Highway Safety, a Former Chairman of the Board of the Cranston Y.M.C.A and he was also a former Vice President of Temple Sinai in Cranston, and a former co-owner of Only a Dollar, Inc; he was a member of other Civic and Charitable organizations.

Devoted father of John Brooklyn, his partner Cara Hart, Alex Brooklyn, his partner Teri Molloy, Susan Brooklyn and Nancy Brooklyn, her husband Sven. Dear brother of Mildred (Isaac) Jolles, Sylvia (Eric) Denhoff and Lillian (Sidney) Grau. Loving grandfather of Chelsea, Amanda, Roshi, Brooklyn, Emma and Kensington. Cherished great grandfather of Izabel.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in Lincoln Park Cemetery. Shiva will be observed in private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to RI Community Food Bank, ATTN: Development Department, 200 Niantic Ave, Providence, RI 02907.
