Providence

Sheila (Cohen) Troob, born in Brooklyn, NY in 1928 whose last residence was at Wingate on Blackstone Blvd in Providence, RI passed on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 96 from complications of gallstones.

She was the beloved wife of the late Irving Troob for 71 years and the daughter of the late Israel and Rhea (Schatz) Cohen.

A bright student, who skipped 2 grades; she entered Ohio University at 16 and graduated from Hunter College with her bachelor’s in music and Brown University with her Masters. Sheila and Irving lived in Warwick, RI for 20 years, raising 2 children. She was a music teacher in the Providence Public Schools for 30 years, taught private piano lessons, did the bookkeeping for the Jewelry and Metal Stamping businesses, was an active member of Temple Beth El, where she conducted the choir and was a member of Ledgemont Country Club. She moved to Rehoboth, MA to “the castle” where for next 20 years she tended to birds, sheep, horses, and an extensive garden. A third life, in Vero Beach, FL lasted until Irving’s death in 2020. There Sheila was active in the AAUW, Temple Beth Shalom Sisterhood, Grand Harbor golf club, attended concerts and was a hostess to family and friends. Oh! and she loved to eat out at the best restaurants.

In addition to her children Jolie Shushansky (Larry Shushansky) and Dr. Howard Troob (Patricia Troob) she is survived by her grandchildren: Marc Troob (Heather Lopes Troob) of RI, Renan Ozturk (Taylor Rees) of CO, Dr. Scott Troob (Keith Greenwald) of NY, Nathan Shushansky (Meghan Long) of RI, Ilana Shushansky (Dr. Vanessa Bozhuizen) of OK, Eric Troob (Sarah Troob) of RI and Joshua Troob (Alyssa Troob) of CO and her great grandchildren: Amelia, Emory, Annie, Shia, Emma and Ella.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Priest Chapel at Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02888. Shiva will be private.     Irving was friends with my uncle Irwin Weinstein as youths and maybe with Sheila also later. I lived in Rehoboth into the early 1980s. Irving and Sheila had their annual pig roasts which was always a treat. They both lived life to the fullest and are to be celebrated.
