Levin, Barry E., 89, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Brookdale Sakonnet Bay in Tiverton. He was the beloved husband of Frances (Brotman) Gersten Levin for 55 years. Born in Bronx, NY, a son of the late Louis and Frances (Brown) Levin, he had lived in Cranston for 54 years, previously living in Pawtucket. He was a fourth-grade teacher with the former Valentine Almy Elementary School for more than 30 years, retiring in 2000. Following his retirement from teaching, he continued serving at the former Lincoln Downs in Lincoln, RI as a ticket clerk.

Barry was a devoted “car guy,” he poured his spare time into his blue 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe Business Coupe, a car he’s owned since the mid-eighties, that he proudly showed off on Sundays and for shows dedicated to classic cars. He also played the 1923 saxophone, given to him by his father, with the Providence Civic Orchestra of Senior Citizens. Barry, a passionate guy with a kind, gentle demeanor, was a dad to Gary, his wife Robin Gersten, and Carl Gersten all of Plymouth, MA and Lori, her husband Michael Shore, of South Kingstown, RI. Loving grandfather of Bethany, her husband Nick; Erica, her husband Joseph; Kayla, her husband Paul; and Brandon, his wife Eleanor. Cherished great-grandfather of 3.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Rosa Furtado and her staff  at “Here When You Need Us”.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. Final Disposition and Shiva will be observed in private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

    Fran, Gary, Lori , Carl and family,
    I am sending deepest condolences to you all after just reading of Barry’s passing.
    He was a gentle soul who brought light to Fran’s life.

    I had the pleasure of working with Barry at Lincoln since 1982: he was a true and soft spoken person whom I had the pleasure of knowing…R.I.P. a true gentleman!

    Condolences to your family members. Mr. Levin was my 4th grade teacher at Valentine Almy elementary school. I can remember the times when he had to sneeze he would always go to the window and look up at the sun he would sneeze (loud some times). R.I.P Mr. Levin

    I smile in remembrance when I think of Barry. He was such a nice, kind man. I’m sure he will be missed by many. Deepest sympathies to Fran and all his loved ones.
