Reffkin, Stephen M.

DATELINE: Cranston

Reffkin, Stephen M., 72.  Stephen died on Wednesday November 15, 2023 at home. He was born in Providence on July 24, 1951, the only son of the late Sally (Davis) and Burton Reffkin late of Cranston and younger brother of Leslie Anne (Reffkin) Bower of London. He was the much loved uncle of Laura and Jonathan and great uncle of Hülya, Selvi, Cora and Will. His long term companion, Darlene Plante, died in 2016.

He grew up in Cranston and graduated from Cranston High School West and Providence College (1973). Stephen always lived and worked in the RI area. After graduation he worked at the Alpine Ski Shop with his father and later at various care homes in RI, which he found very satisfying. When younger he was a frequent and welcome visitor to London to see Leslie and her family, sometimes hiking in the English countryside with his brother in law, Stephen Bower, or enjoying boat trips down the Thames.

Graveside services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Road, Warwick.  Shiva will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Inspiring Minds via the Support Us page.

I was a childhood friend of Steven from Homer Street. I lived just across the street. Steve and I played hours of wiffle ball and throwing a football in the parking lot adjacent to our houses. He was, by age 7, already a huge fan of the Red Sox, Curt Gowdy, and Johnny Unitas. I always remembered our hours of 2 person ball playing as one of my ultimate childhood memories. Steven was a good friend and a good person already when young.
