Osofsky, Sarah M.
WARWICK
Osofsky, Sarah M., 98, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at The Phyllis Siperstein Tamarisk Assisted Living Residence in Warwick, RI.
Sarah always joked that entering the world on October 30, 1924, was a Halloween welcome and she spent the rest of her life with a sweet tooth as proof. She passed away at age 98 just 6 days shy of her 99th birthday. She was a Staff Sgt during WWII, serving as an x-ray technician. She met her beloved husband Israel Osofsky on a blind date, married and moved to his hometown of Bristol, RI where the first of her children was born. Moving to Cranston, her two daughters soon followed. Tragedy struck when she was widowed in 1963 with three young children. She made raising her children her main priority. When they were small, she set her work hours so that she could be there for them both before school began and when they arrived home.
She retired as a status verifier for the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service at the age of 80. A dog lover, she waited for her last pet to pass away before selling the house because it wouldn’t be fair to move her to an apartment. After retirement, she enjoyed socializing with her long-time friends. They met weekly, alternating games of Mahjong, Canasta and Rummy. She was a member of Temple Torat Israel and its Sisterhood and a lifelong member of Hadassah and Jewish War Veterans Post 28.
Sarah was predeceased by two older siblings, Sidney (Mitzi) Bass and Beatrice (Bella). Cornez. Sarah is survived by her son James Osofsky of South Deerfield, MA, Susan Osofsky and her husband Jerry Saunders of Richmond, VA, Karen Osofsky Michelson and her husband Scott Michelson of Seattle, WA, and grandchildren Rachel Osofsky of Columbia, MD, Hannah Osofsky of Boston, MA and Matan Michelson of Seattle, WA.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 27 at 11:00 AM at Shalom Memorial Chapel, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston, followed by a Military Salute at Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Rd, Warwick. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to your favorite charity. The family will be welcoming friends in her honor on Saturday, October 28 at 1:00 PM at the Phyllis Siperstein Tamarisk Assisted Living Residence, 3 Shalom Dr Warwick, RI.
Rest in peace, remarkable and amazing lady. May your light in this world continue to shine for eternity. Shalom.

Jim and the Osofsky family,
My condolences and sympathies on the passing of your mother. Sounds like she was an amazing woman and had a life will lived. I hope the happy memories ease the pain of her loss.
It was nice to talked to you over the phone and you will be missed. Rest in peace and thank-you for paving the way for future women in the military.
I’m just so glad I got to meet her. Learning more about her now and reflecting on the brilliant parts of the family I have been honored to get so close with in Karen, Scott and Matan along with Rachel and Hannah puts me in awe of what she was able to do as a single mom for so long and the legacy she has perpetuated. It says so much about the person she was! With admiration and sorrow, we wish all the family much comfort in the memories.
