Horowitz, Toby L.

Dateline: Warwick

Toby Horowitz

At 81, a month shy of her 82nd birthday, passed away at the HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center on June 10, 2023, after a brief illness.  Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Belle (Abramowitz) and Martin Eisenberg, younger sister of the late Elliott Eisenberg.  Devoted wife of the late Alan Horowitz, with whom she shared an all too brief 35 years of marriage. Beloved mother of Cheryl Adessi of Warwick, RI, and Stuart and partner Amy Levine of Framingham, MA.  Adoring and immensely proud Bubbe of Alanna Horowitz of Somerville, MA and Cameron Adessi of Warwick. Although her immediate family was small, Toby had many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Toby lived in Warwick for parts of 52 years before moving to Johnston in late 2021.  She was employed in various fields, including Sears, Minuteman Press, and Bank of America.  Toby and her family became very involved members of Temple Beth Am in the early 1970s, and she remained a member there until it closed.  She was a temple board member, a leader of the Sisterhood, and an active parent to the religious school and United Synagogue Youth chapter. Toby was a friend to everyone. Having only their immediate family in Rhode Island, Toby and Alan amassed a large circle of friends with whom they shared holidays and social times. In her later years, Toby enjoyed attending the events of Chabad of West Bay in Warwick, volunteered for Hadassah and Tamarisk, and welcomed new residents to the Preserve at Briarcliffe in Johnston.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff members of the Preserve at Briarcliffe, Roger Williams Hospital, and HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, with special thanks to Dee Richard and Dr. John Stoukides. Donations in Toby’s memory may be made to Minyan Darchei Shalom, ℅ 8 Swallow Drive, Newton, MA 02462 (darcheishalom.org), or to Chabad of West Bay, 3871 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02886 (https://www.rabbiwarwick.com/).

The funeral will take place at Shalom Memorial Chapel, 1100 New London Avenue in Cranston, RI, on Tuesday June 13 at 11:00 am.  Burial to follow at Lincoln Park Cemetery in Warwick.  Shiva will commence at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 801 Greenwich Avenue in Warwick on Tuesday from 2-5 pm, and continue at Stuart and Amy’s residence 8 Raleigh Road, Framingham, MA on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with a minyan at 7:30pm, and Friday and Sunday from 2-4pm.

  5. B”H Dearest Cheryl, Stuart & Family,
BDE. We are most saddened by your Mom’s/Bubbe’s passing.
Toby was a genuinely wonderful woman imbued with Torah values evidenced in her deeds, demeanor, and warmth. We always valued our relationship especially during our 9 years serving at our shared Warwick RI shul where she was a reliable Sisterhood leader and friend to all. Our experiences in Israel with her, you, and your Dad, z”l, was a highlight for all of us! Toby will surely be a source of eternal blessing. T’N’Tz’B’H’. With affection, your aging Hazzan Steven & (youthful) Myrna Dress, Boca Raton FL.
