Cohen, Sheila Barbara, 88, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Saul Cohen. Born in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late Max and Leah (Bowers) Osofsky, she had lived in New Bedford for over 50 years.
Sheila graduated Mt. Ida College, Class of ’56. She was a member of the former Ahavath Achim Synagogue and a member of the Boston Museum of Arts.
Devoted mother of the late Lauren Ann Cohen. Dear sister of the late Dr. Stephen Osofsky.
Graveside services will be held Monday, April 17 at 11:30 a.m. in Plainville Cemetery, 1400 Old Plainville Rd., New Bedford, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home, 200 Hawthorn St, New Bedford, MA 02740.

Our condolences to all remaining family members and friends of Sheila. We’ve known Sheila since 2007. We saw her put to rest her beloved husband Saul, and daughter Lauren. She lived through the heartbreak, but speaking with her, you could see the deep sorrow. Sheila was a great friend to my entire family, and she will be sadly missed. In many of my conversations with her, the subject matter was focused on God. A godly woman she was. Sheila appreciated life and all of God’s blessings, and she expressed that to me many times. May you rest in His arms forever Sheila. Shalom!
