Grant, Harold E., 92, of 40 Sachem Dr., died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Kent Regency. He was the beloved husband of Edith (Engelson) Grant for 65 years. Born in New York, NY, a son of the late Herman and Ethel (Hymes) Goldstein, he had lived in Cranston for 47 years. Harold was the owner and general manager of Bess Textiles in Pawtucket for 26 years and previously owned Peter Pan Textiles in Paterson, NJ, retiring in 1990. He was a WW-II Army veteran, serving in the European Theater as a 1st Lieutenant from 1944 to 1946. He received a Purple Heart during the “Battle of the Bulge.” Harold received his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University in 1943 and was voted “Best Athlete” in 1942. He was a member of Temple Sinai and its Brotherhood and was a chairman for the Blood Bank. Harold was active with bowling, tennis, bridge, baseball and scouting and was a big sports enthusiast. Devoted father of Michael Grant and his wife Joan of Scarsdale, NY and the late Donald Grant. Loving grandfather of Steven and Allison. Dear brother of the late Professor Sydney Grant and brother-in-law of Margarita Grant.
