Seymour Port

DATELINE: Cranston

Port, Seymour, 95, died Sunday, January 13, 2019, at Wingate Residence, Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Bernice (Kaufman) Port. Born in Providence, a son of the late Dora (Gerstenblatt) and Samuel Port, he had lived in Cranston for almost 60 years before moving to Wingate on the East Side in 2017.

Seymour was a self-employed manufacturers’ representative in the costume jewelry business until his retirement. He was a graduate of Brown University and proudly served as a naval officer in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres during WWII. He was a member of Touro Fraternal Association (Harmony Lodge), the Masons, and the Jewish War Veterans.

Seymour and Bernice were true soul mates. They shared a love for travel, visiting countries in Asia, Europe, and South America. They were always ready to be on the dance floor for everything from ballroom dancing to disco. Seymour had a great sense of humor and was always a joy to be with.

He was the loving father of Rhonda Walker and her husband, Roger, and adoring grandfather of Allison. Dear brother of the late Rose Rosenfield and Hyman Port.  Seymour’s family is grateful for the love he received from his caregivers.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to your favorite charity.  Shiva will be observed at 55 Susan Dr., Cranston, Wednesday 7-9 and Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. For online condolences, please visit
