Morris J. Levin
Levin, Morris J., 83, died on March 28, 2014 in Del Ray Beach, Florida. He was the beloved husband of Roberta (Abedon) Levin, to whom he had been married for 57 years. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the devoted son of the late Benjamin and Rose (Wolk) Levin. Morris lived in Narragansett, Rhode Island, having previously lived in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Loving father of Carl Levin and his wife, Brenda, of Narragansett, Rhode Island, Bari Levin and her husband, Massi, of Costa Rica, and Sean Levin and his wife, Susan, of Chestnut Ridge, New York. Cherished grandfather of Eliecer, Gabriella, Rebecca, Benjamin and Alina. Morris was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, received his law degree from The Boston University School of Law, and his Masters of Law from Harvard University Law School. Morris served in the Counter Intelligence Corps of the United States Army, and was awarded the National Defense Service and the Good Conduct medals. Morris was counsel for the United States Department of Justice and the United States Postal Service. He also served as staff counsel for Senator John O. Pastore (Rhode Island), and was counsel for the United States Senate Committee on Commerce during the hearings on the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He was a lobbyist before the United States Congress and an author of the Newspaper Preservation Act of 1970. Morris was also a speechwriter for Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey. In addition to his work as a lobbyist, Morris was a trial and appellate attorney. His clients included newspapers, trucking companies, railroads, airlines, and the State of Israel. Graveside services will be held on Monday March 31, 2014 at 12:15 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 301 S. County Trail, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33407-2270. Shiva will be observed at 101 Ocean Road, Apartment 104, Narragansett on March 31 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday April 1 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday April 2 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Morris was a great friend and raconteur who really made a difference while remaining a true son of Rhode Island. He will be missed by his many friends here in Washington and elsewhere.
