Kasten, Gerald (Jerry), 85, died January 6, 2023, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (Rahm) Kasten for 30 years. Born in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late Louis Kasten (Z”L) and Hannah (Mathisson) Kasten (Z”L), he had lived in East Greenwich, RI for 30 years, previously a long-time resident of Framingham, Massachusetts.

Jerry was a Technical Documentation Manager at Digital Equipment Corporation in Massachusetts for many years, retiring in 1992. He continued to work as a software developer after that, and he enjoyed working independently on software development. He loved traveling overseas with his wife Ruth, playing chess with his nephew Glenn Kasten, and doting on his grandchildren.

Devoted father of Sheryl (Kasten) Caissie and her husband Brian Caissie of Alva, FL; Lawrence Kasten and his wife Jill Kasten of Worcester, MA; and Susan (Kasten) Abrahams and her husband David Abrahams of Austin, TX. Loving stepfather of Adam Alper and his wife Kim Sinclair of Randolph, MA, and Jen Zinno and her husband Matt Zinno of Sharon, MA.

Dear brother of the late Matthew Kasten (Z”L). Loving grandfather of Daniel and Sarah Caissie; Joshua, Hannah, Avery, and Levi Kasten; Samuel and the late Harry Abrahams (Z”L); Elizabeth, Jacob, and Thomas Zinno.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 9:15 a.m. in the Priest Chapel of Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02888. Shiva will be observed at his late residence, 95 Fry Brook Dr., East Greenwich, Monday to Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, nami.org or Congregation Beth David, cbdri.org.

    We are so sad to learn of Jerry”s passing. We had such fun times together ever since meeting at the Canyonlands trip. He will be missed! We wish comfort for Ruth and the whole family.
