Rosen, Dorothy M., 89, of Rangeley Rd., Cranston, died Friday, October 18, 2013, at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. She was the beloved wife of Judah Rosen for 67 years. Born in Manchester, England, a daughter of the late Jack and Jane (Varley) Backner, she had lived in Cranston for 55 years. Dorothy was an artist and clothing designer, retiring in 1963. She was a past president and secretary of ORT, a past vice president, in charge of  trips, of Cranston Senior Guild and a member of B’nai B’rith. Devoted mother of Craig & Sharon (Kirker) Rosen of Assonet, MA and Reid A. Rosen of New Rochelle, NY. Dear sister of Howard M. Backner of Lincoln. Loving grandmother of Chad & Becky (Coutu) Rosen and Katie (Rosen) & Jason Glover. Cherished great grandmother of Samantha, Nathaniel, Zoe & Robert. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904. Shiva will be private.

    To Judah,

    Dorothy’s passing has caught us all by surprise. We are so very, very sorry for your loss. Dorothy was a wonderful friend to all here at Cranston Senior Services and a true ‘class act’. She will certainly be missed.
