Lili Krongold

DATELINE: WESTERLY

Lili (Malewanczyk) Krongold was born on October 20, 1921 in Tczew, Poland.  She passed away on October 8, 2021, just 12 days shy of her 100th birthday.  A Holocaust survivor, she was a person of great strength, leonine courage and an indomitable spirit.  Everyone who knew her, loved her.  IT was impossible not to admire her for her honesty, her sense of humor, her kindness and for never ever backing down when her principles were at stake.  From the ashes of tragedy, like the phoenix, she rose, unbent, to make a life with her husband George and daughter Elizabeth in Rome, Italy and subsequently, in the United States, after WWII.  Her passing is a loss which cannot be measured.

She was predeceased by her mother Gustava (Bohenek), her father Jakob and her brother Marian, all murdered by the Nazis, her husband George and her son-in-law Willy Goor.  She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Krongold Goor and nieces and nephews scattered around the globe.  Her daughter wishes to thank the entire staff at The Elms, where she lived until her passing.  Their kindness, care and compassion made Lili’s life carefree and comfortable.  For that, her daughter will be forever grateful.

Funeral services and Shiva were private.

Oh Liz, my heart aches for your loss. What a beautiful write up in the paper, and she was all of that and more! And you my sweet Liz, are just like her. You had two parents that loved you beyond words, and a husbands love, like a shining light. Right now, we grieve, but someday I hope all the memories will bring a measure of comfort. With deepest sympathy, Linda Greene
