David M. Gold

DATELINE: NORTH SMITHFIELD

David Marshall Gold passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020. He lived a life that will be remembered by many.  Born October 14, 1946 in Providence, David grew up in Pawtucket, RI and settled in North Smithfield for over four decades. He attended Worcester Academy and graduated from Bryant College in 1971. David was the owner of Gold International Machinery in Pawtucket, founded by his father Victor in 1961. David, his wife Marcia and his son Daniel worked together in this third generation business.

David was an outstanding and successful businessman. He was also involved in many community activities. Most recently, David was appointed President of the Pawtucket Business Development Corporation where he had been a Board Member since 2011.   He received the Nelson J. Gulski Service Award from Bryant University in 2017.

David was a patron of the arts. He and Marcia, his adored wife of 53 years and the love of his life, enjoyed and supported theatre and the arts.  Additionally, he was an accomplished photographer who began professionally creating innovative images and art in 1969. One of David’s photos is located in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.

A source of pride for David was his home “The Gold Farm” in North Smithfield, RI where he raised horses and realized his childhood dream of having his own magical park and forest where he rode horses and ATV’s with family and friends.

Most of all for David was his love of family.  He was born to parents Victor and Josephine (Kortick) Gold. He met his wife Marcia at age 13 whom he married in 1967. His two sons, Daniel R. Gold and his late son, Joshua M. Gold, were a great source of pride and love, as were his grandchildren, Angelina Josephine and Kevin Gold of Florida, and Amelia Gold of Providence. David also leaves his beloved sisters, Jude Gold Barucha of New York, and Shari C. Gold-Gomez and brother-in-law Juan Fran Gomez, of Brookline, Massachusetts, who loved him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory can be made to: The Victor Gold Scholarship Fund at Bryant University, 1150 Douglas Pike, Smithfield, R.I. 02917.

Funeral services and shiva will be private. A celebration of David’s life will be held at a later date.

Marcia, Daniel and family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers. David was always a special friend to my family and I. My daughter grew up knowing him as Uncle David. He had a big heart and was devoted to helping others. I recall him having me come talk to a young man he was trying to help with life choices, while I was on the police department. We know that this is a very difficult time for Marcia, Daniel and the family and please know that David’s memory will live on in his family, friends and all he touched. I was fortunate to know him as a friend. May he RIP.

    Marcia, Dan,

I am so sorry to hear of David’s passing. My company bought many machines from him and we became good friends over the years. Used to meet at Barney’s for a bagel many mornings and then at Modern Diner when Barney’s closed. He always had a smile and great words of encouragement. My life is better for having known him. May he Rest In Peace

    To the Gold family,

    My deepest condolences to you.

It was a great pleasure to have known David throughout the years personally and as co-members of the Machinery Dealers National Association. David was an interesting and knowledgeable collector of equipment. I enjoyed hearing the stories of his treasures and the finesse of his conversations. He will be missed!

I am saddened today to learn of David’s passing. He was a business friend and became a friend, someone who I cared for and respected. He loved his family that was central to his life. There is much about living that I learned from David. He was a colorful character with a serious yet playful approach to life. I went to Europe with him on a business trip some years ago where he greeted everyone he met with his charm and robust personality. It seemed that he knew everyone.
I saw Marcia and David at the airport a few months back. He stood up and gave me a hug. I hugged him back. I will miss you David.

Bryant University has lost a true champion much too early. Our thoughts are with Marcia and the family. We will miss David’s frequent visits to campus and his support of our teams, students and the University as a whole. He was the consummate ambassador. We were certainly proud to recognize him with our highest service award for his many years of dedication to alma mater.

The deep sadness I feel at the passing of cousin David is in sharp contrast to the joy of his colorful and robust life. He led the house full of cousins in Pawtucket and had Marcia by his side even as a teenager. David’s flare for art, photography, horses, cars, food and his business is legendary. He and Marcia entrusted Daniel to me to be tutored for his Bar Mitzvah, and attended every family function with smiles, hugs and a genuine feeling of connection. Larry and I are praying for you, Marcia, and the immediate family in this time of grief.

    Gold Family
I am so sorry for your loss. David was such a fun character. He always came to the lab dressed in his fur coat and diamond ring.
He always told me to bid on the ring if I ever saw it on ebay. Well, David, you will have plenty of diamonds in heaven. You were definitely a jewel here on earth.
