Deborah “Marnie” Horovitz

Horovitz, Debbie, 83, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Warwick, Rhode Island. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Deborah was the daughter of Benjamin and Lena (Edison) Berman. Her sister Edna (Berman) Burack predeceased her in 2018.  She is survived by her loving husband, Adrian Horovitz, of 63 years whom she met at a party hosted by his fraternity at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1952 and instantly fell in love. She pointed him out to her friends that evening and told them she was going to marry him…and she did four years later.

Debbie is also survived by two children, Amy (Horovitz) Panzer and her husband Andrew, and Jeffrey Horovitz and his wife, Kathleen (McHugh). She is also survived by four grandchildren: Melissa, Jarett, Jacob, and Joshua who affectionately called her Marnie perhaps because her hair color in those years leaned a little bit too close to a “Barney” purple spectrum.

Debbie was all about accessorizing and adding a creative spin on everything she touched. Whether she was knitting gorgeous homemade sweaters and scarves, making stained glass-type flowers that she sold to stores at Midland Mall or creating centerpieces for parties, her crafts were incredibly memorable and made with immense love. She was a master at needlework and hosted evening classes for over two decades teaching fellow crafters to incorporate over 50 different types of stitches on needlepoint canvases. Her business “Mrs. Nedlpt” was aptly named for a woman whose 3-dimensional needlework work was nothing less than spectacular.

Debbie served as Sisterhood President at Temple Sinai in Cranston, Rhode Island in the early 1970′s and for many years after that managed the gift shop. Dubbed by her family, “Mrs. Hallmark”, she was truly a people person who never missed an opportunity to commemorate a birthday, anniversary, or milestone in the lives of anyone whom she cared about.

Debbie was a true and loyal friend, a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, and an amazing grandmother.  She will be sorely missed by her family and all who knew her.

In coherence to regulations set by COVID-19, funeral services and Shiva will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Temple Sinai Horovitz-Wexler minyan fund.

So sorry for your Loss Adrian, Jeffery and Amy. Debbie was an amazing person and my Mother Evely Palumbo and aunt Julia Terinos good friend. She came to my Mom and aunts beauty salon for many many years and beacame far more than a customer. Every saturday she would come and have her hair done always bringing something with her, pizza or cookies, and that big bright smile. I knew her since before I could even walk. She will be missed. My hearfelt condolences, Anthony “Scott” Palumbo.

My condolences to you, your brother and Dad. Debbie taught me everything I know about needlepoint. I looked forward to Tuesday night when many of us would sit around the table with Mrs. Needlepoint, stitching and eating whatever goodies she made and sharing our life stories. Debbie, Adrian, my husband, Sal and I traveled to Washington DC to see the Christmas Tree ornaments we had made for The White House. She will always be alive in my memories and hope the memories she leaves behind will bring you comfort . She loved her family with passion. With love , Phyllis DeSalvo
