Barry and Family. This was shared with me at a tine of loss and I share it forward. DEATH IS NOTHING

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way, which you always used. Put no difference in your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, and pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is an absolute unbroken continuity. What is Death but a negligent accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well .

My condolences Ellen. Sandy was very passionate about our temple and was always a doer; he would lead a minyan, serve on the board, participate in fund raisers and anything else he was asked to do. He will truly be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Sanford’s passing. I knew him many years ago. I know he was a wonderful father to Diane and a great husband to Brenda, my former teaching colleague and wonderful, supportive friend. Peace be to this kind man’s memory. I send peace and comfort to Ellen and Diane, his family and friends.

I had the good fortune to know Mr. Shaw, albeit largely as a patient, for many years. He and I shared interests beyond only his health concerns. We both were especially fond of boating and he was extremely proud of the one that he owned. As with other things in life he took meticulous care of it. He got to explore the bay with his wife and knew just about every nook and cranny of Narragansett Bay at which one could dock or anchor. (Docking of course much preferred). His accounts of these explorations left me envious for more time on my own vessel. It was a very sad day for him when he had to give that up because of health issues.

He was an extremely kind and considerate gentleman. Soft spoken but obviously filled with enjoyment for life. He was devoted to his wife and as his body betrayed him he was more worried about being a burden to her than his own discomforts.

If a physician is lucky his patients become more to him than just persons to mend. I am proud to say that Sandy was a friend as well. One does not need to be famous or wealthy to be a great man . I will miss him profoundly. My condolences to all whose lives he touched. We are all the better for it.

I went to high school with Sanford and Brenda. We were in the same home room for all three years at Hope High. I am on the committee planning our 60th reunion. Although we weren’t close friends and I only saw him a few times through the years, he was one the people who I hoped to be able to see, but such things are out of our hands. He was a great guy back then and I am certain he was the same as a man. My condolences to the family.
