Desi Weis Chernov

Chernov, Desi Weis, 86, died peacefully in West Hartford on Sunday, October 27, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Chernov. Born in Poland, a daughter of the late David and Malcha (Siegel) Feldman, she had lived in West Hartford for 17 years, previously living in Warwick and Providence. As a survivor of the Holocaust, Desi became an orphan at a young age. Her devotion to her four children was evident as she raised a very loving family and created a bond that has kept everyone extremely close. She most enjoyed hearing from her children on a daily basis at least once and often more! Desi’s favorite pastime truly was to be with her caring family and special friends and she enjoyed watching and listening in on conversations (in English and Hebrew) as much as she enjoyed participating in them.

Devoted mother of David Weis and his wife, Marylou, of Tucson, AZ, Aron Weis of Oakland, CA, Mel Weis of Irving, CA and Dina Weis of West Hartford, CT. Dear sister of the late Moishe and Dina Feldman. Loving grandmother of Rebecca Weis, Rachel Weis and her husband, Matt Taccone, Sarah Weis, Jeffrey Zekowski, Benjamin Zekowski, Joshua Weis and Ethan Weis. Cherished great-grandmother of Lillian and Eleanor Taccone.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 31, at 1:30 p.m. in the Priest Chapel in Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Road, Warwick, RI. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT 06117.

A luncheon will be held following the service from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Chelo’s Restaurant in Providence (one of Desi’s all-time favorite restaurants), 505 Silver Spring Street, Providence.

Dear Mel, Aron, David, Dina, and family, I have just heard of your beloved mothers passing just minutes ago. Today is Nov 21. I have such a heavy heart as I have such fond memories of your mother. I wish I had kept in better touch these last several years. She was so caring and passionate about life and the bonds of family. Her love for my grandfather was so strong and she showed it in every way. I distinctly remember her telling me how she and Mel would speak every day, sometimes more than once, and I found that so sweet. I
hope you receive this message. Much love and peace to you all, Sarah (Merrill Chernov’s daughter)
