Alan and Michael and Family, I share with you all this poem that was shared with me at a time of loss and I pay it forward.
    DEATH IS NOTHING

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way, which you always used. Put no difference in your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, and pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is an absolute unbroken continuity. What is Death but a negligent accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well .
Written by Henry Scott Holland (27 January 1847 – 17 March 1918) was Regius Professor of Divinity at the University of Oxford

Kind, loving, generous, and passionate about justice. Barry Field was a wonderful human being. Just three months ago, as ill as Barry was, he and Kurt made a shiva call at the home of my sister Robin as we were mourning the death of our dad. He had trouble talking, and walking, but he and Kurt were there. Barry loved reminiscing about our little Jewish world of the East Sude/Pawtucket where we grew up. My heart goes out to my dear friends Kurt, Beth and Lisa, and to Barry’s entire family.

    To Kurt and Barry’s Family,

I’ve known Barry for over 20 years as a fellow Gold’s Gym franchisee. Barry was kind-hearted and loved by our entire franchisee community. He was always attentive to the law and he was funny as hell. I’ll miss you, Barry, and so will all the people who knew you. It’s way too early in his life, but it’s now time to celebrate Barry. He was a good person. All the best to Kurt and Barry’s family.

My deep sympathies to Kurt, and all of Barry’s family, during this time of loss. Though he was taken much too early, his mark in a number of communities and within the groups of those of us who loved him will be with us forever. He was a gentle man who always found time to embrace others in during their times of pain. There was no greater an example of a selfless soul. While this may be your “Last Dance” you will forever by in my heart.

The sadness of Barry’s passing is for those of us left behind and is lifelong. The blessing of knowing and loving Barry is also lifelong. We are privileged to have known and shared life with him. I grew up with Barry on Wilcox Avenue and watched him grow into a fine man. Let’s celebrate his life and all the good he has done while with us. Rest In Peace, friend.

Barry…sweet sweet soul. You have left us too soon. I have so many wonderful memories from our childhoods and beyond. We grew up in the same hood and played piano duets together- Our teacher Mrs. Liffman was so proud- especially of you as you were the one with talent! You were always hanging at our house – you became a welcomed part of our family. We had childhood crushes on each other but never ever at quite the same time. And we both eventually came out (and proud) both living in different parts of the Boston area for years. I always admired your commitment to political work for the legal rights of the lgbt community and I especially loved and appreciated your warmth, humor, and generosity- always. I send my love to Michael and Alan and Barry’s entire family and especially to Kurt – I am thinking of you – sending hugs, love and my sincere condolences.
