Bessie Lindenbaum

Bessie Lindenbaum, 107, a retired real estate broker and investor, died Sunday, January 27, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida.
She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Lindenbaum. Born in Lanovits, Poland, a daughter of the late Nathan and Chana Rosenberg and step-daughter of the late Rifka Rosenberg. She was a Rhode Island resident until 2002 when Charlie passed away and was currently living in Royal Palm Beach, Florida.
Mrs. Lindenbaum, in partnership with her late husband, had been a real estate owner, broker and investor, and remained an active member of that industry until she was 97 years old
Bessie was a member of Temple Beth-El, the Glocester Heritage Society (which honored her long and adventurous life at a special ceremony in April 2015) and a lifelong member of the Rhode Island Jewish Historical Society, which published a story of her migration from Poland to the village of Chepachet, the only Jewish family to live there.
She enjoyed gardening, she was a prideful baker who could make a world class noodle kugel, and a very skillful bridge player. She enjoyed theatre, concerts and movies and her success in business allowed her and Charlie to travel the world.
Bessie was the devoted mother of Ken Linden and his wife, Linda Leyden-Bernal, of Pennsauken, NJ and the late Roberta Fox; a beloved sister of the late Irving Rosenberg, Anna Weinbaum and Moses Rosenberg, and cherished grandmother of Natalie Winne and Todd Fox, and an adored great grandmother of Adam and Dylan Winne.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan 31 at 11:30 a.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Temple Beth-El, 70 Orchard Ave., Providence, RI 02906. Shiva will be private.

I’ve been a close friend of grandson Todd Fox for over 25 years
All during our ongoing friendship Todd expressed his love for his grandmother . He made it a point to visit her regularly and often bragged about how remarkable her mind still was for someone over 100 .He often talked about how blessed he was to have her and how important she was to him throughout his life! Truly a priceless relationship with cherished memories . She will be missed by many !
So very sorry Ken to hear of your mother’s passing. I have very pleasant memories of your family, and the fun we had with you and Roberta growing up hear in Chepachet. Again my sincere condolences.
So very saddened to learn of dear Bessie’s passing, yet heartened to marvel her living to such a ripe old age. This is not a surprise in her case, though, and is certainly a testament to the adage that ‘hard work never killed anyone’ !! I have fond childhood memories of Bessie and Charlie – but mostly of Bessie (sorry, Charlie) – as she was the more unique of the two. Growing up in 1950′s & 1960′s in the neighboring town, we were frequent customers at the ‘old fashioned super market’ (since and still ‘Dino’s Park and Shop’) in Chepachet Center (now in a modern plaza further down Route 44) which they owned and operated and very familiar with the Rosenbergs’ businesses. I can still picture scenes of ‘Bessie at the register’ and hear her enchanting voice conversing with customers of all ages and means. Later, she was instrumental in helping my folks sell some difficult properties, advising them along the way. She was a woman ahead of her time and a pioneer in the real estate profession, an often outspoken but always politically correct lady, and always a class act! She was genuine, kind, brilliant, polished, capable, confident, caring, and of sterling character. She, indeed, was blessed to have lived such a long, full life and we, in turn, were blessed to have been graced by her presence. Bessie Lindenbaum: a remarkable woman, a remarkable life !! Rest in peace and enjoy eternity with your beloved Charlie.

Hello Ken .. When I read the announcement of your mother’s passing ln the Providence Journal, I read her obituary in the Shalom Chapel site.
I remember so many things about your mother. I especially remember a trip we made to Chapachet..
She was always so interested in anything we were doing.
Ken , we had a great high school experience.. Hard to believe it was 70 years ago.. !!!

It would be great to see you, but I don’t believe you will
be back in RI very soon.

This woman amazed me. Her mind was as crisp as I could only hope mine is at 46. Her words of wisdom will never leave me. The relations she had with her grandson Todd warned my heart. Will miss our visits but am so blessed to have known her.
While I never Bessie we frequently talked whenever I was at
Roberta’s. From what I could tell from our conversations, the apple did not fall far from the tree and many of Roberta’s best qualities were inherited from her beloved mother. The voids that they have left can will continue to be filled with the love, laughter and faith they shared with those fortunate to know them.
