Ruth Snyder

Snyder, Ruth, 91, died Saturday, January 6, 2018 at RI Hospital. Born in Brockton, MA and raised in Dorchester, MA, where she graduated high school, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Etta (Dvorsis) Snyder. She had lived in Providence, previously living in Cranston and Milton, MA. She was a photo colorist in Boston and Providence and a lithographer for Advertisers’ and Engraving Co., Heritage Color and National Bickford. Ruth retired in 1986 and traveled extensively. She was an artist and a member of the East Greenwich Art Club. She was a life member of Hadassah and a member of Temple Sinai. Ruth was a sister of the late Fanny Rapoport and Victor and Frank Snyder, She was the aunt of the late Robert Rapoport and his sister Dorothy Lipson. Ruth is survived by her beloved niece and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and great great nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. Burial will be private. Shiva will be observed at 90 Sheffield Road, Cranston on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Temple Sinai, 30 Hagen Ave., Cranston, RI 02920. As a volunteer with Beacon Hospice, I often visited with Ruth. She told me about her painting, the places that she had lived, her memories of Cranston and Providence, but most of all of the friends and family who were so dear to her. I’ll miss our visits and am keeping those who loved Ruth in my thoughts.
Ruthie was my neighbor when I was in college forty years ago. I use to see her walking in Cranston from time to time….and would offer her a ride…whenever I saw her….my world was a better place because she was in it…
I was so sorry to hear that Ruth passed away. When I saw Ruth at Temple she was always so colorful in her clothing and her personality and in so many other ways. Ruth had a pleasant smile on her face and appreciative for whatever anyone did for her. Tomorrow is her funeral and I want to wear something very colorful (not black) just for her. That is what she would expect me to wear. Her world was always full of color even including streaks of color in her hair at times. Color and painting was such an important part of her life.

I like Frank McDowell was a neighbor of Ruth’s on Princeton Avenue way back when. That is where she met Sid Gurnick, who lived on the first floor directly across from our house. Ruth and my late mother were both natives of Brockton, so they were friends from their childhood. It was always nice to see Ruth and Sid at Touro dinner events, it was the chance to catch up with two friends from the old neighborhood.

Ruth was my sister Maryann’s neighbor for many years in Knightsville Manor in Cranston R.i Ruth was a great artist and a great example for us younger ones she always walked and did not give up her routines .We were proud to be her friend RIP Ruth

I am so blessed to have called Ruth a friend. We spent many fun times together, having first met at Trinity Rep. She was sitting next to me and after conversing, a friendship bloomed. As years passed we continued to get theater seats together. We enjoyed a trip to NY, dining at Cafe Itri and an occasional jaunt to King’s Restaurant for her Chinese food fix. At one point she convinced me to take watercolor painting classes with her. She loved art, painting, and color. I will always remember her as a delightful lady who loved life and a laugh. I will miss you, Ruth! May we meet again.
All the stylists and staff at Fred’s Place were lucky to make the acquaintance of Miss Ruth. She personified the phrase ” You go girl!” Regardless of her age and the pain she endured every day, she continued to walk around the block everyday and enjoyed the restaurants in the area, especially Cafe Itri..she loved it there.
She enjoyed her singing and painting and really made the most of every day. She would walk by the salon and give a wave or stop in for a cup of coffee and a treat. Her presence was missed in the neighborhood when she moved to Arbor Hill.

I was Ruth’s dentist for over twenty-five years. She was an absolutely wonderful lady. She lit up the office whenever she came in. She always joked with the staff and complimented each one of us. I was affectionately referred to as ‘dear’ or ‘darling’ and she blew kisses to me whenever I walked into the room. I will miss Ruth. Fortunately I have two of her watercolors that will remind me of her and her ever present smile.

and I did some picture framing for her in the 70′s.
