Bruce Werchadlo
Werchadlo, Bruce, 66, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at home. Born in the Bronx, NY, he was a devoted son of the late Howard and Ida (Canetti) Werchadlo. He grew up a true New Yorker, and fan of all New York sports teams, especially the Yankees. Bruce often attended games with his father and brother, and his favorite player was Mickey Mantle. Bruce moved to Cranston, Rhode Island in his teens with his family. A star tennis player, Bruce was a state champion in 1968. He was in the Navy reserves, serving stateside during the Vietnam War and attended college at CCRI. But Bruce’s lifelong love and passion was tennis, which he turned into a career as an instructor. Bruce taught hundreds of Rhode Islanders how to play tennis, and was a beloved member of the tennis community. Friends remember Bruce as having a fantastic sense of humor on the court (and off it) and “the best volley they’d ever seen.” He leaves behind three children: Michael Werchadlo and his wife, Dessira, of Lincoln, Emily Schaible and her husband, Jeff, of West Hartford, CT, and Alex Werchadlo of Cranston. He was the dear brother of Charles Werchadlo and his wife, Deborah, of North Scituate, Larry Werchadlo and his wife, Patricia, of Cranston, and Carol Hall of Boca Raton, FL.He also had four beautiful grandchildren: Kacy, Joey, Luke, and Nate. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. Shiva will be observed on Sunday at the Governor Sprague Mansion, 1351 Cranston St, Cranston, RI 02920 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Our condolences go out to the whole Werchadlo family and friends, especially my very best friend, Carol.
Dear Carol, Chuck and Larry,
I was saddened to hear of Bruce’s passing. We worked together at the Racquetball Club in good ‘ole Garden City in the 70′s. He was a blast; always welcoming and ready to laugh! I will always remember Bruce as youthful and carefree…and of course as our dear friend Carol’s big brother. May he rest in peace.

To Alex and the rest of Bruce’s Family:
I was saddened to hear about Bruce and I’m so sorry for your loss…he was the “kickstart” of my own passion for tennis back around 1980 when my parents met him in the tennis club community which led me to beginning private lessons with him when I was 11 yrs old. Bruce was so funny and always made me and my younger brother laugh ON and OFF the court! I continued to see Bruce here and there over the years within the tennis scene and I would always enjoy chit chatting with him…and he still always had that great sense of humor! He was a great guy and friend to all, and certainly a “fixture” in my own history and memories of growing up around this sport. It will certainly be remembered ALL that he contributed to those around him with whom he shared his passion of tennis, as well as the many lives he touched everywhere.
