Shirley Ann Katz

DATELINE: New Bedford

Katz, Shirley Ann, 102, died Sunday, Sep. 11, 2016 at the St. Luke’s Hospital. Born in New Bedford, MA, she was a mom, hairdresser, and a beloved community member.  She was an avid poker player, loved cooking, knitting, sewing, dancing, and visiting with family and friends.  Shirley was a member of Ahavath Achim Synagogue and its Sisterhood. Beloved daughter of the late Barney and Rose (Long) Goldstein, wife of the late Gilbert Katz, sister of Sanford Goldstein, and the late Reba, Jennie, Stanley, Hyman, and Samuel Goldstein.  Shirley was loved dearly by her daughter and son, Deborah and Jeffrey Katz, her nieces and nephews, Bernice, Bradford and the late Steven Goldstein, her granddaughters Gabrielle and Jodi Katz, and extended family Joyce Adler and Michael Maino. We will miss her dearly. Her spirit and kindness will dwell in our hearts forever. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in PLAINVILLE CEMETERY, Old Plainville Rd., New Bedford.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home, 200 Hawthorn St., New Bedford, MA, 02740.  Shiva will be private.

    Condolences to Jeff and Deb. Our Mothers were brought up together in Dartmouth and were very close for many years. I remember going to your home many times and have fond memories of your entire family. (My mom, Evelyn Correia Brillo passed away on 12/3/2006)

    I am so sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. She was a wonderful, warm and genuinely compassionate soul. My deepest condolences to Jeff and Debbie and the family. I will remember her fondly, and whenever I think of her it will be with a smile. May she rest in peace.

    So sorry to hear about your moms death.Although I have not seen her since you were both little ,I know my mom loved her like family.I can only imagine the reunion my mom Evelyn Correia Brillo and your mom had in heaven.God will have his hands full with those two.

    so sorry for your loss nice lady who was friends with my moms family and met Debbie 50 years ago she probably don’t remember me it was when you lived on Roberson street
