Evelyn Rose Nussenfeld

Nussenfeld, Evelyn Rose, 98, of 83 Robert Circle passed away on Thursday April 28th. Born in Bayonne, New Jersey in 1918, she was the only child of the late Sam and Ruth Gregerman, the family moved back to Rhode Island in 1923 where Evelyn was a resident since 1951 where she spent most of her life until moving to Pawtucket a few years ago. A graduate of Classical High School and Sweeny Business School, Evelyn worked as a medical secretary and nurse assistant for doctors Abraham Horvitz and David Friedman. A lifelong member of Temple Torat Yisrael sisterhood, she was the corresponding secretary of the synagogue for 50 years until her retirement at age 94 when she became an honorary corresponding secretary as the office was dedicated in her name.  She was also a life member of the Cranston chapter of Hadassah and a member of the Cranston Seniors Guild and Society of Life. Twice widowed, Evelyn was married in 1936 to the late Earl I. Zitkin and in 1966 to the late Leo Nussenfeld.  She is survived by her niece, Lois Kudish, and her cousins David Penn, Jess Dubin, Elise Pansey, Michael and Lisa Penn, Lisa Grasso and Ellen Hyman.  She was the cousin of the late Rose Penn, William Gregerman, Paul Gregerman, and Belle Hyman. The funeral service will be held at Temple Torat Yisrael, 1251 Middle Rd., East Greenwich, Sunday at 12:00 noon. Shiva will be observed Sunday 6-8 at Temple Torat Yisrael. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temple Torat Yisrael building fund.

    As Evelyn’s back yard neighbors for over 40 years, we miss her greatly. Her thoughtfulness and caring will always be in our hearts.
