She was the beloved wife of the late Sanford Coren; he was the love of her life, and the couple were married for 65 years.

The eldest daughter of the late Solomon and Rose Fischer, Esther was born in 1927 in Brezanny, Poland. The family emigrated to the United States when she was one year old, and settled in Providence, Rhode Island. An outstanding student, Esther graduated from Central High in 1945.

She began her professional career as a clerical worker but paused her working years to raise her two children. Later, Esther worked at a number of companies as a bookkeeper, including Spencer Company, Time Plating and RI Technical Plating. She retired in 1993 to help care for her grandchildren.

Esther loved cooking and hosting the family for the holidays and many spirited meals at her home. Above all, she cherished her role as a wife, a mother, a mother-in-law, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, an aunt, great-aunt and a sister. Family meant everything to her and her family cherished her as well.

Esther is survived by her son Richard Coren and wife Carrie, of Cranston; and daughter Cheryl Botwick and husband Steven, of East Greenwich. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy: granddaughter Blake Watterworth Coren and husband Avery, of Portland, Oregon; grandson Jeffrey Botwick and wife Laurel, of Providence; and grandson Zachary Botwick and wife Hannah, of Warwick. She was also blessed to become a great-grandmother to Jesse Botwick and Cleo Watterworth Coren. She is also survived by her brother, Charles Fischer of Cranston, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Shalom Memorial Chapel on Thursday, October 15, at 11am, and shiva will be observed at her daughter Cheryl’s house on Thursday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.
