Kaplan, Lloyd S., 93, died Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Sheila (Berger) Kaplan for 66 years. Born in Fall River, MA, a son of the late Abraham and Tillie (Siegel) Kaplan, he had lived in Warwick since 2009, previously living in Providence. He was a music teacher and professor at numerous schools, including Hugh B. Bain Jr. High School, Scituate Jr. & Sr. High Schools, Brown University Extension School, CCRI, Coastal Carolina University, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and University of RI. He never fully retired. Lloyd was a Korean Conflict Army veteran. The first music teacher to be recognized and inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, he devoted his life to music and his family.

Devoted father of Marjorie Seidenfeld and her husband, Mark, of New Rochelle, NY and Mitchell Kaplan and his wife, Eleanor, of Providence. Dear brother of the late Morton “Sonny” Kaplan, Rosalyn Jacobson, and Rita Stein. Loving grandfather of Noraa, Rebecca, Michael, Talia, and Jonah.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. Shiva will be observed at his late residence, 11 Friar Tuck Rd., Wednesday and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and Friday 10-12 noon. Joyce Sandra Singer Lee, 72, entered her eternal life and rest, peacefully at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center on September 5 after a courageous and inspiring 2.5 year battle with glioblastoma.

Married in 1978, she is privileged to call herself the fortunate wife of her late husband Terrence E. Lee (deceased in 2025). They built a beautiful life together, filled many travel adventures, good friends and family times. The highlight of which has to be the amazing family vacation we all were blessed to share.

She is a cherished mom to her devoted children Daniel Lee and his wife Tiffany of West Warwick, and Andrea Lee of Walpole, MA. Additionally, Joyce takes special delight in being the adored Nana/Nannie to the 2 lights of her life: her beloved grandchildren Zachary Lee and McKenna Lee. Joyce has been a major presence in their lives from birth. Starting with babysitting on a daily basis to attending sporting events and Irish step dancing competitions.

Born in Providence, Joyce is the daughter of the late Robert Singer of Boston and Eleanor (Silverman) Singer of Providence. She is the beloved sister of Patti Singer of Rochester, NY. She leaves her cousins to hold tightly to the memories of the times they had together. Joyce leaves Terrence’s family to hold on to the life they shared.

Joyce is a 1971 graduate of Cranston High School East and a 1975 graduate of URI.

After 19 rewarding years as a stay-at-home mom raising her children, Joyce began her medical research career at The Miriam Hospital and then Brown University and Women and Infants Hospital. She found this work very rewarding and always appreciated those who stepped forward to help.

Joyce treasures her many- many long-standing, deep friendships, some of which stretch back to childhood, high school, college, the workplace, the Edgewood community and her wonderful Williams Ave family. She is very thankful for all the help and support she has received.

She will be remembered not only for what she found, but for what she gave: her time, her wisdom, her kindness, and her unwavering belief in the goodness of others.

Claire Silverman leaves behind a legacy of love, beauty, and generosity that will endure for generations to come.

Born in Providence, RI, a daughter of the late Rose (Schoenberg) and Paul Goldstein, she had lived in Providence, Warwick, and Narragansett until moving to Florida in 1991.

She was a legal secretary for many years, both in Rhode Island and in Florida.  She was the first and founding President of the PTA for Cottrell F. Hoxsie School in Warwick.  She was a member of Temple Beth Am in Warwick for 35 years, and in Florida she was a member of Temple Beth El in North Port, from 1992 where she served as President for 2 years, and its Sisterhood, where she was also President for 2 years.  She was a member of ORT’s Affinity (book review group), an avid needlewoman, and enjoyed mah jongg, gardening and other activities.  She was an active member of Kings Island Homeowners Association and had served as its Secretary.

She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 52 years, Salomon Shuman.  She leaves two beloved daughters, Cindy Shuman (David Bernstein) of West Greenwich, RI, and Risa Shuman (Peter Gerard) of Foster, RI.  Dear brother Sheldon Goldstein of Jacksonville, Florida, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She also leaves her beloved dog, Hope, who lives with Risa and Peter in Foster, and cats, Lance and Talli.

Graveside services will be held at Lincoln Park Cemetery on Sunday, August 16, 2026, 11:00 a.m.  Arrangements are by Shalom Memorial Chapel.

Salk, David L., 71, died Sunday, August 9, 2026 at RI Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lori (Levin) Salk for 41 years. Born in Providence, a son of the late Lewis and Charlotte (Gilden) Salk, he had lived in Cranston for 33 years, previously living in Warwick. He worked in business paper sales for over 20 years and for Verizon selling plans and phones for 11 years, retiring in 2022. David was a graduate of Pilgrim High School Class of ’73 and Bryant College Class of ’80. He was a member of Touro Fraternal Association. David enjoyed baseball and was a huge Red Sox fan. He also liked golf, skiing, walking, and cats.

Devoted father of Tyler and Brandon Salk. Dear brother of Richard Salk and his wife Cate of Warwick and Amy Rottenberg and her husband Jim of Clarksburg, MD.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in SHALOM MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1100 New London Ave., Cranston. Shapiro, Jeffrey N., 76, died on Monday, August 3, 2026, with his loving wife of 52 years, Susan by his side. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of the late Jack and Ethel (Berman) Shapiro. He had lived in Marlborough, MA for 41 years. He travelled often for work, living in many places like Huron, OH, Syracuse, NY, Vermont and New York City. Jeffrey graduated from Boston University in 1972 with his Bachelor of Science and from New York University in 1974 with his Master of Public Administration.

He was a manager for non-profit agencies for 30 years, specializing with vulnerable communities suffering from drug and alcohol abuse, retiring in 2008. Jeff was a dedicated collector of stamps and he dutifully belonged to and served as an officer of the United States Stamp Society and the American Philatelic Society. Part of his duties to these groups was to serve as an accredited judge of collections and appraiser for the other collectors during stamp shows. When Jeff was able to, he would unwind with romantic classical music like the compositions of Gustav Mahler. He also just appreciated being able to spend his life alongside his loving wife, Susan (Schiff) Shapiro. Together they built a beautiful life devoted to their joys and traveling.

In addition to his wife, Jeffrey is survived by his siblings, Stephen Shapiro and his wife Deborah of Orlando, FL and Marilyn Hazen and her husband Jack of New Smyrna Beach, FL, his in-laws Barry and Pam Schiff of Cranston, RI, his nephew Bennett Schiff, as well as his other 7 nieces and nephews.

Kaplan, Kenneth E., 79, died Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Susan (Darcy) Kaplan. Born and raised in Providence, a son of the late Nathan and Mary (Coppola) Kaplan, he had lived in West Warwick for 15 years, previously living in Cranston, and was a lifelong resident of RI.

He was a correctional officer at the ACI since 1982, retiring in 2015. Kenneth was a Viet Nam Marine veteran. He was a graduate of Mt Pleasant High School Class of 1965, a member of Foster Pine Tree Gun Club, a former member of Temple Emanu-El, and earned a business degree from Roger Williams University.

Devoted father of Kendra Kaplan and her friend, Dr. Daniel Collins, of West Warwick, RI, Leanne Kaplan and her husband, Jhon Wood, of Johnston, RI, and Sherry Kaplan of West Warwick, RI. Loving grandfather of Woody.

Abrams, Andrew C., 67, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Providence, a son of the late Victor and Leah (Eisenstadt) Abrams, he had lived in Bristol for 2 years but had spent most of his adult life in Pawtucket. Andrew was a treasured member of The ARC of Blackstone Valley for over 20 years where he cultivated bonds and friendships with housemates and staff alike.

Andrew is described as an enthusiastic and easy-going person. He was as happy to go for walks with his housemates as he was to visit concerts and play basketball. Prior to COVID, Andrew was a devoted volunteer with the Blackstone Valley gardening project at Daggett Farm, he proudly tended to the plants: watering and weeding were his specialties, when given the opportunity, he would make very involved and beautiful arrangements that would later be sold to the community. Andrew sought out new experiences and eventually he, along with his dearest friends, Jim and John, would be known as the 3-Musketeers; they bowled together, painted pots together and participated in Best Buddies and attended the Special Olympics. Andrew was non-verbal, but his enthusiasm and joy were contagious, he followed the flow of life and made sure to stop and appreciate it in his own ways.

A devoted best friend of Jim and John, a dear friend Ryan, who has been consistently by his side for many years and Angela, as well as the entire community of The Arc of Blackstone Valley. Dear brother of Marlene Miller, her husband Stephen, of San Francisco, CA. Beloved uncle of Joseph (Nabat), Aaron, and Lee. He was also the great-uncle of Leah and Nathan.

Mayer, Howard M., 95, died Monday, July 20, 2026 at home, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Judith (Daly) Mayer. Born in Brooklyn, Ny, a son of the late Edward and Leah (Chefer) Mayer, he had lived in Providence for 4 years, previously living in Sanibel Island, FL. He was the owner of Carpet World in Bridgeport, CT, retiring 33 years ago. Howard was a proud Sargent in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Temple Emanu-El, Providence; Temple Bat Yam, Sanibel Island, FL; Temple Judea, Fort Myers, FL; and Temple Beth El, Fairfield, CT. He graduated Stuyvesant High School, Manhattan, NY.

Shatz, Elaine S., 83, died on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Bayview at Scalabrini in North Kingstown. She was the beloved wife of the late Franklin B. Shatz for 36 years. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Murray and Irene (Sock) Cohen she had lived in West Warwick for 29 years, previously living in Warwick for 27 years. Elaine is a graduate of Bryant College in 1962; She was a former operations administrator with Citizens Bank. Elaine was a devoted member of the former Temple Am David. Elaine lived a peaceful life, but she read often, she often told her family that reading was an opportunity to take her mind on adventures from the comfort of her home.
